Privacy Policy for Cortex Companion

Effective Date: June 29, 2026

Cortex Companion is a Chrome extension that helps users import public audience signals from supported websites into their Cortex workspace for persona research, objection mining, messaging research, and marketing strategy.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Cortex Companion collects, how it is used, and what control users have over their data.

1. What Cortex Companion does

Cortex Companion lets users collect visible public content from supported pages, such as Reddit discussions and Amazon reviews, and send that content into their Cortex workspace.

The extension only imports content when the user chooses to use it, such as by clicking the extension icon, clicking an import button, or starting an import from a supported page.

Cortex Companion does not scan all tabs in the background and does not collect browsing history.

2. Information we collect

Cortex Companion may collect the following information when the user explicitly triggers an import:

  • Visible Reddit post or comment text from supported public Reddit pages
  • Visible Amazon review text from supported Amazon product or review pages
  • Public page metadata, such as page title, product name, subreddit name, source URL, and timestamp
  • Import status, selected workspace, and related extension settings
  • A Cortex session token used to connect the extension to the user’s Cortex account

The extension stores the Cortex pairing/session token locally in Chrome storage so the user can stay connected to Cortex.

3. Information we do not collect

Cortex Companion does not collect:

  • Browsing history
  • Passwords
  • Payment information
  • Amazon or Reddit login credentials
  • Cookies
  • Private messages
  • Background tab activity
  • Content from unsupported websites
  • Content that the user does not choose to import

4. How we use the information

Imported content is used to help the user perform research inside Cortex, including:

  • Persona research
  • Audience research
  • Voice-of-customer analysis
  • Objection mining
  • Messaging research
  • Content strategy
  • Marketing and product positioning

We do not sell imported content or user data to third parties.

We do not use imported content for advertising targeting.

5. How data is shared

Cortex Companion sends user-triggered imports to the user’s Cortex account through the Cortex backend.

Data is transmitted securely over HTTPS.

Cortex Companion does not share imported data with Amazon, Reddit, or unrelated third parties.

Third-party infrastructure providers may process data only as needed to operate Cortex, host the application, secure the service, or provide core functionality.

6. User control

Users can control the extension by:

  • Choosing when to import content
  • Disconnecting the extension from Cortex
  • Removing the extension from Chrome
  • Deleting imported research from their Cortex workspace where supported

Disconnecting the extension removes the local pairing state from the browser.

7. Data retention

Imported content is retained in the user’s Cortex workspace until the user deletes it or the account/workspace is removed according to Cortex account controls.

Local extension settings and pairing data remain in Chrome storage until the user disconnects the extension, clears browser extension data, or uninstalls the extension.

8. Security

Cortex Companion uses HTTPS to transmit data to Cortex.

The extension does not include API keys or server secrets in the browser extension package.

Session tokens are stored locally in Chrome storage and are used only to authenticate the user’s extension requests to Cortex.

9. Supported websites

Cortex Companion currently supports importing visible public content from:

  • Reddit public pages
  • Amazon product and review pages on supported Amazon domains

The extension uses host permissions only for supported sites and the Cortex application domain.

10. Children’s privacy

Cortex Companion is not intended for children under 13 years old.

11. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date on this page.
